The Orchestra

The “Tuesday” Orchestra

The Tuesday Orchestra originates from various orchestras conducted by the late Mr Eugene Genin MBE. In the late 1980s, it became known as the SLRO (South Liverpool Rehearsal Orchestra) and was conducted by Doctor Ian Sharp. A rehearsal Orchestra is one in which the repertoire changes every few weeks and includes music from the standard orchestral tradition – symphonies, concertos, overtures, suites and other music.

In 2011, we decided to drop the ‘rehearsal’ part from our official name and are known simply as the “South Liverpool Orchestra”.  This also reflects that we don’t only rehearse ‘for the sake of rehearsing’, we generally tend to perform two concerts a year in May and December. The present conductor is Doctor Robert A. Howard.

The current membership stands at over forty members. The orchestra is always pleased to welcome keen musicians and students (whether instrumentalists, conductors or composers).

The orchestra is very conscious of it’s role in the development of the community arts in the region and it is represented on the Arts and Culture section of the Liverpool Community Network.

Audition is not required for membership of the Orchestra. If you are interested in joining, please contact us (full details are on the Join Us page).

Rehearsals take place each Tuesday evening at 7.30pm at Liverpool Reform Synagogue, 28 Church Road North, Wavertree, Liverpool, L15 6TF.
