The Orchestra

The “Tuesday” Orchestra

The Tuesday Orchestra originates from various orchestras conducted by the late Mr Eugene Genin MBE, and since the late 1980s, what was known as the SLRO (South Liverpool Rehearsal Orchestra) has been under the auspices of Liverpool Hope University. The present conductor is Dr Robert A Howard. A rehearsal Orchestra is one in which the repertoire changes every few weeks and includes music from the standard orchestral tradition – symphonies, concertos, overtures, suites and other music.  In 2011, we decided to drop the ‘rehearsal’ part from our official name and are known simply as the “South Liverpool Orchestra”.  This also reflects that we don’t only rehearse ‘for the sake of rehearsing’, we generally tend to perform two concerts a year in May and December.

The current membership stands at over forty members. The orchestra is always pleased to welcome keen musicians and students (whether instrumentalists, conductors or composers). We look forward to the annual session with Liverpool Hope’s PGCE Music students when the orchestra is put through it’s paces by student conductors.

The orchestra is very conscious of it’s role in the development of the community arts in the region and it is represented on the Arts and Culture section of the Liverpool Community Network.

Audition is not required for membership of the Orchestra. If you are interested in joining, please contact us (full details are on the Join Us page).

Rehearsals take place on the Hope University Campus at Hope Park. We meet on Tuesdays at 7.30pm throughout term time, in the EDEN Building, Room 109 in Liverpool Hope University Campus.
